Scenic Platform Lift Installation at St James Gate, Newcastle

S&D Lifts supplied and installed two scenic platform lifts at St James Gate in Newcastle, creating accessible upper-floor access while minimising building works and preserving light within the new office development.

The Challenge

S&D Lifts was appointed to supply and install two scenic platform lifts within a new office development at St James Gate in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The project required an accessible lift solution that could provide reliable access to the upper levels while fitting neatly into the modern office environment and keeping associated building works to a minimum.

The Scenic Platform Lift Solution

S&D Lifts installed a pair of Altura Platinum platform lifts, each housed within its own self-supporting glazed structure.

Using a self-supporting lift framework helped minimise associated building works and kept the lift shaft footprint compact. The glazed design also allowed natural light to pass through the shaft, helping the scenic platform lifts blend into the wider office environment rather than becoming a visually heavy addition.

Each lift was supplied with a separate control panel and pump unit, positioned within a few metres of the lift shaft.

The Result

The completed platform lift installation provided essential accessible access to the upper levels of the St James Gate office development while integrating cleanly with the modern interior.

The glazed, self-supporting design helped retain light within the building and reduced the need for extensive structural works, creating a practical accessibility solution that also complemented the surrounding office space.
