The Challenge
S&D Lifts was appointed to supply and install a new glazed external platform lift at Co-op Live.
The lift needed to provide reliable step-free access to the upper level while fitting within a compact area beside an active visitor route.
Because of the prominent external location, the platform lift also needed to complement the arena’s dark architectural finish and integrate into the surrounding building fabric without disrupting pedestrian circulation around the entrance and visitor areas.
The External Platform Lift Solution
S&D Lifts supplied an external platform lift housed within a glazed structure, with the framework finished in a dark RAL colour to complement the Co-op Live façade.
Large transparent shaft panels help maintain visibility around the external visitor route, while manual swing doors at both levels keep the overall installation compact.
A hydraulic drive system was selected, together with a remote control panel and pump unit. Positioning these components away from the main lift structure helped minimise the footprint of the installation.
The compact glazed platform lift fits neatly alongside the existing stairs, ramps and merchandise area, providing accessible travel between levels without dominating the building elevation.
The Result
The completed external platform lift installation provides Co-op Live with a practical step-free route to the upper level while preserving circulation space around the entrance and visitor areas.
The dark frame and glazed enclosure complement the surrounding architecture, helping the lift feel integrated into the venue rather than added separately.
Its compact footprint also allows the adjacent stairs, ramps and visitor areas to remain clear and usable. The client was extremely pleased with the finished installation.
